September 4, 2011: The World's Greatest Problem   Play

We welcome our new pastor, Clayton Mixon. He and his wife, Kathy, are now ministering at Vinings FBC.

God’s Provisions

On Sunday evenings since Easter we have been studying the Book of Nehemiah. This is a very inspirational Old Testament book which has to do with the rebuilding of the walls in Jerusalem following seventy years of desolation. The majority of the citizens had been exiled to Babylon, leaving a small remnant living there. The walls had been destroyed and the gates had been burned. The remaining inhabitants were at the mercy of the surrounding peoples and authorities . There was very little hope in the city where Solomon’s majestic temple had stood.

God intervened in this dire situation by placing a divine plan on the heart of Nehemiah. This should serve as a reminder to all of us that every great work of God begins with a plan- not our plan but His plan. We must keep our hearts and mind open to be able to recognize and receive His plan when He gives it to us.

He also made provision for the rebuilding of the walls. After Nehemiah received the plan, God provided all the materials that were needed to accomplish the task.

Finally, He provided protection from the surrounding nations and even the enemies who did not want to see the wall rebuilt. Nehemiah had a constant trust in God and His protection. When challenged by the enemy, Nehemiah stated, “The God of heaven will give us success.”

When God had given the plan, made the provisions, and provided protection, He put into the hearts of the people a “mind to work.”  The walls and gates that lay in ruins for seventy years were rebuilt in fifty two days. It is amazing what can be accomplished when God is in it.

My prayer is that God will give us His plan, provide the resources, provide protection, and put into our hearts a “mind to work” to accomplish the great work and vision He has put before us in the coming months and years at Vinings First Baptist Church.
